The State of AI Design 2026 report finds designers now run roughly double the AI tools they used in 2025, with output quality as the biggest complaint. More tools isn't the same as better work.
The State of AI Design 2026 report tracks how design toolstacks have exploded — designers are running about twice as many off-the-shelf AI tools as they were in 2025, on top of custom scripts and plugins they've built themselves. The report calls out 'tool fatigue' as a real cost: constant switching, inconsistent output quality, and pressure to keep evaluating new releases.
If you're working across Figma and Penpot, this is worth a gut-check. Bolting on a new AI plugin every time one trends on your feed isn't a strategy, it's noise. The report's own finding: tools that stick are the ones that fit an existing workflow, not the ones with the flashiest demo.
This is adoption-stage, not hype — real usage numbers, real fatigue, still working out what's worth keeping long-term.
